About

13 Finger FX and Dan Martin

13FingerFX, founded in the early 2000s, is a premier practical special effects studio, based in South London. However, founder Dan Martin had been working under the name since his teenage years in the early 90s.

A youthful obsession with magic and a fascination with cinema, Dan knew special effects was his calling from a very early age.

At 13FingerFX, we believe in creating magic with a purpose; turning visionary ideas into reality.

Our range of services includes (but is in no way limited to) prosthetic effects, creatire effects, puppet effects, figurative effects and effects props and rigs. We are renowned for our ingenuity and inventive problem-solving, which allows us to approach each project from a unique perspective. This dedication to dramatic and memorable solutions keeps our clients returning and audiences captivated.

We have had the privilege of working on numerous notable projects with visionary directors, such as Ben Wheatley, Brandon Cronenberg, Peter Strickland, Jonas Akerlund, and Harmony Korine, to name a few.

Our work has earned us accolades including the Canadian Academy Award for Achievement in Makeup for Infinity Pool; Fangoria Chainsaw Awards for Best Creature Effects for Color Out Of Space and Best Makeup Effects for Possessor, as well as the British Independent Film Award for Dashcam, and many others. We have received a host of nominations, including the Irish Academy Award for Makeup for our work on Martin McDonaugh’s Banshees of Inisherin.

Our approach is always story-driven; we ensure that every decision made serves the conceptual whole of the film. By treating each effect a a piece of a larger puzzle, we create effects that serve cohesive and impactful visual narratives, This philosophy has led to rich collaborations with some of the industry’s most exciting filmmakers

While based in South London, we work globally, relocating as needed, to bring our expertise wherever it is required. Our vision is to continue telling fantastic stories, providing the literal cinema magic that our projects demand.
